Huruma Family       <---> By: Mama Zipporah

It has been one of our best months when l see one of my dreams being achieved.  It has been one of sincere prayer that God brings a church which will build our young achievers spiritually.  All along this role has been undertaken by my late husband and I.  When he moved from this world we felt a void in this area and strongly l felt l couldn’t fit in his shoes since l cannot be a mother as well as a pastor for my children.  Nevertheless he had left us on the hands of pastors from my village whom since he left have been meeting in our home once a month with our son Pastor Jojo whom l appointed to take the place of dad in their meeting.  Its has been a big breakthrough since he has been accepted by the pastors as well as the Cornerstone Church in Arizona who have undertaken a big role of helping us build our new dormitories for our children.

In December 2008 when Cornerstone Church, Arizona told me they were going to visit our home in July and August this year, l shared with Pastor Linn and his wife Mama Lisa the need of spiritual growth in our youth, for my desire is to see our children grow spiritually and become mature in Christ Jesus. This August Mama Lisa and the team of young pastors organized one of the best one week youth camp in our home. The big children took all their beddings and personal belongings to the school and for four days they had the best camp with the team.  They were also joined by a  large number of youths from our village churches as well as girls from one of our Kenyan high schools known as Danana Girls High School.

I asked one of the youths to give some remarks in regards to the camp and they told me that the camp was interesting because in every lesson their were new things to learn.  So the youths were always anxious to know what was next.  To top up and make the camp more fun the church had come with one of their members who grilled meat for them.  As a result four goats and 50 chickens were bought and he roasted them in different days in the grill he had constructed himself. The kids used to call him Santa and this was such a wonderful treat for them as they had never taken a lot of meat like they did during this camp.

It’s my prayer that the Cornerstone Church will continue building the spiritual side of our children.  It’s a high time that the church as a whole see the need to put more effort on the youth who are the hope for tomorrow.  It’s not easy since l have so many of them maturing.  And l believe even outside there you are faced with the same problem as l.

Please as l pray for you pray for me too for l need the grace of God for wisdom and guidance to bring up these children in the right way.  No wonder Mr. Job of the Bible was praying every day and night for his children.  Let us not give up on them.

Food Donations All The Way From Cornerstone Church, Arizona and From Canada

At this time when drought has hit our country in a great way I would like to thank our God for the provision of food all the way from USA and from the World Relief Emergency, Canada.

For the food container from Canada, we distributed foodstuffs to several orphanages around our area Ngong and others in Nairobi.  Some of the children’s homes we donated foodstuffs to are: - St. Paul’s Children’s Home, Ebenezer Children’s Home, Shelter Children’s Home, Manasseh Children’s Home, Tania Integrated School, Dream Children’s Home, St. Paul’s Children’s Centre Rongai, Nangolie Children’s Home, Mogra Children’s Home, Gathiga Children’s Home and some food we gave to ADA (African Development Agency) and my team of mothers from the slums of Mathare Ngong whom we cannot leave out.

On the same I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Kenyan friends who have continued to be a blessing to our Home by ensuring that we have food in our stores.  You are a blessing to us and we are thankful to God for all of you our friends. We just ask you to pray for us as a home so that we can continue having favour so that we can be a blessing to others who are not as lucky as us.  Still the drought continues to bite even though there is a promise of a lot rains.  Food has become so expensive and for us with children we need God to feed them.

May the Almighty God bless all of you out there who have made this possible.

The Building Progress

We thank you Cornerstone Church for the church equipments you have donated to the church.  It’s almost finished as now we have started on the roofing.  It’s my prayer that by the end of November this year the plastering of doors and windows will be finished so that we can cerebrate Christmas in our new church.  I wish you come now for you will see a lot of difference.  Still we are working on the dormitories which have now been filled up with gravel and we thank God for the support of all you our friends, that we shall have a spacious accommodation for our children. It was in our hearts, my husband and I that we finish the church first before the dormitories, so that God does not feel left out.

Read in the book of Haggai where God was complaining of people living in decent houses than him.  I do not want him to complain about us in Huruma for truly we have seen the hand of God in our home and lives.

Thanks so much for being apart of us and we pray that God will bless you so much for being a blessing to me and my children and our country for this are Kenyan children you are helping.

Counseling News       <---> By: Sis Monicah

This month the youths and I covered the topic on Sex and our Physical Health. The topic was based on the book of James 1:15 that says, “Evil desires conceives and gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown gives birth to death”.

We discussed and came down to a conclusion that sex can seriously damage our health to an extent that it can also lead to death if practiced irresponsibly. A point to note is: so dangerous is casual sex that it should carry a mandatory health warning.

For the foolish passion of infatuation or the mistaken identification of sex for love, are many hidden dangers that we need to be realistic and acknowledge the scale of the problem.

The risk of acquiring some infections is significant enough for you to be seriously concerned with this issue. The question “Is it worth the risk?” is a valid one, despite what the promoters of “sex just for fun” may say.

We discussed in length the issue on Sexually Transmitted Diseases, H.I.V. and AIDS and came down to a conclusion that its worth waiting for the right time than to die or suffer so much for any of the venereal diseases especially H.I.V. and AIDS that are silent killers in today’s society.

May the Lord bless you, big time!

Kindergarten
Generally, the month of July begun well and learning is in progress. With the availability of resources like chairs, toys and other kindergarten materials, which are vital for a conducive learning atmosphere, all is going on well. Each of the children has an academic progress book whereby the teacher comments individually about the performance of each student. The progress book is very important because it helps parents/guardians and teachers, gauge where each child is academically.

Lower and Upper Primary
Performance in lower primary level has greatly improved even as these pupils were in the transition period from kindergarten. I highly suggest that by next term, the pupils will do better and raise the mean score.  For the upper level extensive reading and writing is emphasized a lot in these classes.  Academically the pupils are good and most are now serious with their work with just a few problems. In terms of discipline, the pupils in this section of the school have shown tremendous improvement since the beginning of the term. Beyond any reasonable doubt, the performance in these classes will gradually raise and improve with the combined effort of the administration, teachers, parents and the pupils.

Teaching has been made easier by the availability of adequate text books and we are doing our very best to achieve very good results.  We also do encourage the pupils in reading books. We have library lessons in every class of which the teacher takes them to the library to read under guidance from the library teacher. With this, a lot of improvement in English grammar has been witnessed.

The vision of empowering children cannot only be achieved in class work but also with the involvement of the co-curricular activities.  By this, talents are noticed and natured to maturity. This is discovered through clubs and that’s the reason of having clubs in our school.  The school has a total of six clubs each headed by a club patron who are members of our teaching staff and they hold club meetings and activities everyday.

With a team spirit, the school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with self-reliant skills by working together and tirelessly for the betterment of the child.

Thank you so much and God bless you for you generous support.

Huruma Chapel News       <---> By: Pastor Jojo

God has been good to us even now that we just completed the August youth camp, which was managed by Cornerstone Church from Arizona, Chandler.  All the same God has been faithful to us and He has continued to shower us with His amazing love. We have been running the church for the last 10 months since our Pastor/Dad died and for sure we have gone in to higher spiritual levels.  I say we; because as the pastor am not alone, but we have the church council, who make the all the plans for the church and have been standing with me for all these months.

Also we have church departments who work every day to make the church, as Christ in tended.  We are hoping that our church is going to be completed soon, as the roofing is in progress and all this is God’s doing.  We are blessed so much because from last month we have had Pastor Linn Winters with us and this month we had Pastor Chris with us and it has really been a blessing.

We are hoping that the church will be going to higher levels with time, as we allow the Trinity to have the ways in the church.  We have been having Cornerstone Christian fellowship Church from U.S.A in the church since last month and now the last group is about to leave, and we thank God for them and the work they are doing to impact peoples’ lives and increasing Gods kingdom.

To God be the Glory for everything He has been doing and all He is doing and all He is planning to do in our lives.

Together in God’s fellowship.

Once again am humbled to have this opportunity to bring to your attention the news of yet another month. This was a vacation with no comparison and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been so faithful to our entire organization for all our needs because He has surely provided wholly. First and foremost I would like to appreciate our friends from all over the world. Those of you who visited as individuals, groups and organizations, we thank you so much for being there for us and especially for the children who are always ready to receive anyone who is ready to give them love and more so a shoulder to cry on.

Special thanks goes to our friends from Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Arizona, Chandler, for sending a second group of friends to our home. It was surely the best time for the children and especially for the senior boys and girls who attended a one week camp organized by the Cornerstone group where “MOJA” which means one, dominated the event a sit was the main theme of the camp. The home also received campers from other schools and this gave our children a chance to share and explore their experiences with their new friends.

I believe the secret of success is the consistency of purpose and doing ordinary things in an extra ordinary manner makes them great. Exploring in the river of success has been through Christ who STRENGTHENS US according to the book of Phillipians. May the Lord Almighty continue to bless those people who have always stood by our side in times of dire need in the home. Thanks for filling the gap that existed between our children and their background for they are children with moving case histories.

The end of the month was a beautiful one as we celebrated the arrival of yet another container from Cornerstone Church, Arizona, Chandler, which contained a lot of assorted foodstuffs and electronics. The joy of receiving a second container this year no words could truly explain this. We unloaded it for five hours but that does not count as we continue counting our blessings and naming them.

As the singer sang and said that We have a story to tell the nations, that shall turn their hearts to the right: A story of truth and sweetness, a story of peace and light: For the darkness shall turn to dawning, and the dawning to noon-day bright, and Christ’s great kingdom shall come on earth: The kingdom of Love and light.

Blessings to you all!!

Home Health News        <---> By: Nurse Mary

The general health of the children through out the month of August was satisfactory and no major health problems were reported in the home. I managed the minor cases where the majority of our kids had common cold this been one of our coldest months. We cannot take this for granted but thank the Lord Almighty for the great care and protection He has continually offered to us. We continue to sing the joy of the Lord as we keep on nurturing the children spiritually for the benefit of their spiritual health, this being a Christian Home, observing and raising children who have Christian core values.

This was also a month where the children were weighed and the physical health of the children was recommendable and no malnutrition cases among our children was noted. The majority of the children have put on weight and their growth and development schedule is up-to date. The HIV cases continued to follow up with their clinic for counseling and obtaining their ARV drugs which are later organized in the organizers which becomes easier for them when taking. I also ensure that the drugs are taken at the right time as well as no defaulting takes place.

The kids are also weighed on monthly basis and encouraged on proper feeding. Drug withdrawal has not been reported among our children and none has experienced opportunistic infections and we thank the Lord for the care and protection he has offered to our children.

Generally, the health status of our children is satisfactory and we appreciate the fact that they have not lacked food at this time of food crisis in our country Kenya. More so the oat meal which is very nutritious has also boosted their health. I want to appreciate the volunteers who supported the clinic by supplying it with facility equipment and drugs.

May the Lord Almighty bless them and bless the work of their hands. Thanks also to those who devoted their time and resources and assisted us in the clinic by monitoring the children’s health. Dr. Robin who has now become one of us will not be with us for the next three weeks but be assured that we are praying for you and we are together spiritually.

The captain of our salvation is standing ever near you, take courage because you have no cause to fear. We shall truly miss you!!!

A Note of Thanks       <---> By: Sialo Catherine

The month of August has been one of our greatest and wonderful time of the year.  All our kids were home for their August holidays including also all our high school kids. The holiday was topped-up with a one week camp for the older boys and girls aged from 14yrs and above which was organized by our great friends from Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Arizona, Chandler.

They had such a memorable and awesome time and also they got to learn a lot from our dear friends. Also some time away from the home routine was a worth break for them and I believe that this time of the month will never be forgotten for a long time. I would love to take this moment to thank our sweet Papa Linn and Mama Lisa who are senior pastors of Cornerstone Church for making this happen for us. You both are a true blessing to our Home.

Also I would love to thank the entire team from Cornerstone Church who left their comfort back at home and came down here to spend time with us. We love you and we shall truly miss the wonderful times we shared. The kids are always talking about you all and know that you left a mark in their hearts.

I would also like to thank all our friends who visited our home either individually or in a group. We love you all and you are a great blessing to our kids and the entire Home. Also to our volunteers from all over the world know that we love you and you are always in our hearts and prayers.

For how you can donate to our Home visit our website at www.hchngong.org.

We love you all and may God bless you.
