Huruma Family (By: Mama Zipporah)

I want to thank you so much for standing with us through these hard times. Sometimes things happen in life until you question yourself. But one thing l am happy and l can say is that, the Lord has been my tower of strength and l will forever live for Him. He is the one who healed me and I told Him l would like to appreciate Him by caring for a needy or orphaned child. I am so happy that God agreed to my request and as l go through hardships l know l have to fight against all odds so that l can fulfill what l felt compelled to do.

Today am celebrating 26 years since l received my healing and l will protect with my life the children God has brought to our doorstep since we started Huruma Children’s Home 20 years ago. You know, the Lord reminds me the words spoken by Job that he knew his redeemer lives, thus l know too that my redeemer liveth and He will help and protect me as l go through this valley of problems and tribulations. I want to thank many of you who have prayed and stood with/by me. It has not been easy since I used to share my problems with my late husband but since he is gone, l have turned my face to Jesus who l can trust with my problems and l know l will make it.

I am proud to say that one of our special children has finished her two year course in Early Childhood and now she is pursuing to get her Kenyan Identification Number so that we can help her open a bank account. She is helping us in baby class and she is so determined to make it. Also this is a year we saw four of our children finish their O’ levels which is the last grade in our high school system. We have exited them from the home and re-integrated them back to their families, but still we shall continue supporting them for their college education. The coming year we shall have four of them sitting for their O’levels so continue praying for their education. Please continue holding me my hands in prayers as the home is doing a commendable ministry towards the children.

I want to take this moment and offer my thanks and appreciation to Nairobi Safari Club Hotel who visited us on Christmas and shared snacks and drinks with the children. I also would like to thank Corporate Insurance Company Limited whose C.E.O. Mr. S.J. Njoroge visited our home on the 30th of December 2009 when he learned of  our claim in regards to our van. When he came he was so touched by what he saw and on the same day he approved that we be paid the right-off amount for the school van. The insurance company also donated the wrecked van which had an accident and at the moment one of the friends of the home by name Baba and Mama Ciku are financing for the restoration of the van. May God bless you all abundantly and thank you for loving and caring for my children.

Christmas was such a cheerful and fun season and the children really enjoyed themselves to the brim. Thank you all our friends from all over the world for making our Christmas beautiful as we celebrated the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. I love you all and l pray that the year 2010 will be a great year for each and everyone of you and l pray that God will give you the desires of your heart. As for me my desire is that this court case will get finished and l will get to forgive everyone who has accused us falsely for that is the requirement according to the gospel. I love you all and I wish you a great 2010!!!

Counseling News (By: Sis Monicah)

In November and December the youths and I summarized on what we had covered for the whole year of 2009. We reviewed major areas of our young lives and we came to a conclusion that all these areas helped the youth in Personal Development. With the help of the counselor we described personal development and we noted that it includes changes that are orderly and that tend to move in valued direction. We learnt that human beings are constantly in the process of entering new roles and relationships as well as modifying or casting aside old roles and relationships.

We checked in length the areas in everyone’s life that need to be modified or cast aside and we discovered that there are many areas that need modification e.g. the way we talk to others. Most of us discovered that we need to learn how to relate with others and that is a step in personal development. The verse that helped us in this topic was Psalms 143:10 that says, “Teach me to do your will for you are my God, May your good spirit lead me on level ground”. On and on we discussed this verse and prayed that God will teach us to do His will even in our individual personal development process.

We also learnt that personal development is on-going i.e. it will vary between individuals and also with time i.e. we grow slowly by slowly. With the help of the counselor the youth agreed to do away with things that affect their personal development. Some of those things include unresolved issues, defense mechanism, unresolved trauma, personal backgrounds etc. We agreed we have to involve God to teach us His will and establish us on a level ground as that as we develop personally we may also achieve our greatest ambition in life.

We broke for Christmas season and we agreed that everybody will work on his/her own personal development and as we get to year 2010, we will review and assess how much we have achieved in terms of personal growth. This is in terms of looking at life as an individual rather than as a group of friends because we are all different in terms of our individualistic nature.

May the Lord bless you, big time!!

Home School News (By Mr. Kwaka)

INTRODUCTION

We have come to the end of year 2009 and our Home School has been running smoothly despite the many huddles that came our way. The school is a single stream system as it is registered by the Kenya’s Ministry of Education in Kenya. It is composed of eleven classes, the lowest grade been baby class and highest grade been standard eight. As we end the year the school has a population of 190 pupils; where 58 come from the community around and 132 resides in the home. It is further divided into four sections namely kindergarten, lower primary, middle primary and the upper primary. The school is however breaking for their December holidays and they will resume back to school on the 4th of January 2010. The pupils have being studying really hard and they are all excited as they will each be joining a new and higher grade come the beginning of the year 2010.

KENYA CERTIFICATE OF PRIMARY EDUCATION (K.C.P.E.)

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E.) is one of our national examinations sat for Nation wide by all the grade eight pupils. It enables the pupils to go the next level of their education which is the high school level. This year our pupils sat for the examination on the 9th of November 2009 till the 12th of November 2009. We believe that because of the efforts our ever-zealous teachers had put in, is the reason why good results were realized. The pupils have done very well and made the school as well as the home proud. The school mean-score rose to 273.01 with the first candidate scoring 378 marks out of the possible 500 marks. This was great performance compared to the previous year performance. We believe, hope and pray that we are going to do even better than this in 2010.

LIBRARY

Our school this year has been privileged to have a newly built and well equipped library, which is fully stocked with reference books and materials, study books and storybooks for all ages. Several books have been leased to the pupils to read over the vacation and are to be returned when the school re-opens early next year.

STAFFING

Our school is made up of 18 staff members who work together as a team to see that the pupils are benefiting in all areas of learning. Out of the 18 staff members, 17 are capable teachers who work with the pupils in classes and outdoor activities. Each teacher has got their assigned classes that they teach and lead in the outdoor activities. We also have a library teacher who takes care of the library and attend to the library lessons in the school. However, they will be on vacation as from the 25th November 2009 and will resume duty on the 4th January 2010. They will however come for a one-week duty each to be with the children over the vacation.

CONCLUSION

We thank God for seeing us through the year 2009 and for enabling us to get to the level we are today. We hope to do much better and achieve higher grades in the coming year 2010. Thank you for your prayers and continued support through out the year and we pray that God will reward you abundantly and bless you according to the desires of your hearts. We love you all!!

Huruma Chapel News (By: Pastor Jojo)

Praise God! Glory is to God of our fathers who has called us to fellowship with Him, in His kingdom, as Ephesians 2:10 says. He has seen us through in all we have been doing and that is a blessing we can not ignore.

What a God we serve! He has taken good care of us and we have seen His hand in all we are doing. For the months of November and December 2009 we didn’t have a major issue in the church. The Church has been doing fine and we have continued doing our Bible study on Wednesday nights. We are still in the book of Genesis, trying to see the heart of God in His own word. David our brother is the one taking us through the Bible study sessions. God has been faithful to us as soon Dave shall be joining the university and he shall be away from home for a while. I will start taking the church through sessions of the Bible Study and I believe we shall see God’s hands throughout the study.

All this is God’s work and so we are happy for our brother Dave for this great step in his life. I will also be joining school in January 2010 and I bless God for all He is doing in my life and I know this is/will be a blessing to the church too.

We had the best Christmas ever, as we saw God feeding us with His own hand. We have witnessed the goodness of our Lord and His unfailing LOVE, CARE and PROVISION through out this festive season. Psalms 27:13 says “I am still confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living”. It has been so real and true in our ministry, especially for the whole of year 2009.

We are praying that the church will be going to higher levels with time, as we allow the Trinity to have His way in the church. We thank God for Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Arizona and all our friends all over the world who always think and pray for us, fighting all forces to make our lives better as well as making sure we get the best. What you do, its only God who can repay you back, which is our daily prayer for you all. To God is the Glory, for the great things He has done. Amen! Amen!

Yours in Christ fellowship.

Home News (By: Sis Grace)

November 2009 was one of the most challenging months to our Home. It started at a low key with most of the children suffering from serious common cold but thanks to God most of the cases were managed by the home nurse. There was only one referral case but the entire situation was managed.

Battles wouldn’t end there and on the 9th of November the home received a letter from the children department stating that it had cancelled the certificate of the home. This did not go well with the children who had a lot of questions with no one to answer. We thank God for the peace upon the children and also for preparing us spiritually where we had special teachings that ran for a month about spiritual warfare, which we truly believe was carrying everything.

We are not ashamed to own our Lord or to defend His cause: Maintain the honour of His word, and the Glory of His Cross and He will not put our souls into shame nor let our hope be lost. The same date collided with the Kenya Certificate pf Primary Examination rehearsals and we prayed for peace to our 13 children who were getting ready to sit for their final primary level examinations the following day.

The month became a battle field as we experienced yet another tragedy where some of our children and staff were involved in a bad road accident on the 19th of November and though the van was completely written off, the passengers on board were protected by the precious blood of Jesus that was shed at the cross. As the singer sung that though we pass through tribulation, all will be well because ours is such a full salvation and all will be well and His grace that seals us strong has stretched out to shield us and all must be well.

I would like to appreciate Dr. Johnson and his wife Kay Johnson for standing with us through this time and for providing transport to cater for the picking and dropping of our school children as well as transportation for our children living positively to attend their follow up clinic at the Lea Toto Health Clinic.

December was a great month with all our children back home for their end year holidays. The holiday started on the 26th of November as both the primary and high school children closed school for the longest vacation of our calendar. The vacation was extremely busy as the home children were involved in various home activities like working in the household, beautifying the compound, working at Daddy’s memorial site and preparing Christmas carols as Christmas was lingering in our minds. The best part of the holiday was decorating our Christmas tree together and decorating the whole house both inside and outside. The children had great fun in engaging in this activity and they really did a perfect and beautiful job with the decorations!!

We cannot forget to thank our friends and partners who stood with us during this festive season and in this case sacrificed their precious time to come and visit the children; which was the greatest Christmas gift that you gave to them. Also we want to thank all our friends who made Christmas bright for our children by donating financial and material gifts to the home. Having a feeling that they have people out there that care about their wellbeing matters so much to them.

We thank God for you and for your wonderful gifts and may your life be rich beyond compare. We pray that you shall continue been a part of our lives and that we shall move together in the Love of Christ who strengthens us.

Home Health News (By: Nurse Mary)

November and December have been good months in terms of the health conditions of our children. The health clinic operated effectively with enough drug supply from our sponsor Dr. Robin in conjunction with Lea Toto health clinic. The HIV cases continued to follow up with their clinic for counseling and obtaining their ARV drugs. Drug withdraw has not been reported among our children and none has experienced opportunistic infections and we thank the Lord for care and protection he has offered to our children. The year has been great to us as none of our positive children has experienced serious health complications and thus we are grateful to God for His unfailing protection and care He has been providing to our children.

Lea Toto Health Clinic has continually been observing our children health status and advising the home clinic where required on how to boost our children’s immunization system. The clinic has also continually provided drugs for our positive children as well as nutritional porridge flour for boosting their health. May the Almighty God bless all those involved in the health clinic and may He grant them the desires of their hearts.

Generally, the health status of our children is satisfactory and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been providing for our day to day food. Our home clinic highly appreciates the willing donors who have supported this facility by supplying it with equipment and drugs. May the Lord Almighty bless them and bless the work of their hands. Thanks also to those who devoted their time and resources and assisted us in the clinic by monitoring the children’s health.

Special thanks go to Dr. Robin who has continually supplied us with drugs, fruits and eggs for our HIV kids. It is such a blessing and May the Lord Almighty give you the desires of your heart as you continue serving in the children’s ministry.
